Casa Anton. La vita è quella che è!

Casa Anton by Francesco Facciolli is a tribute to the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov, an astute and profound observer and connoisseur of late 19th-century Russia. Through a witty and ironic work of rewriting that mixes one of his masterpieces, "The Three Sisters (1900)," with some of his most famous stories-One-Act Plays he termed "jokes," adhering to the vaudeville device ("A Horsey Name" 1885, "The Proposal" 1888, "The Chorus Girl" 1886, "The Bear" 1888), we find ourselves in front of the lives of characters, men and women, perhaps only seemingly distant from our own, skillfully intertwined in an emotional and colorful crescendo made of human "scenes" to be simply observed without seeking hidden meanings because Chekhov was a master at describing the flow of life without worrying about finding a specific meaning. Life, Chekhov seems to suggest, is what it is, and that's enough. All we can do is observe it and "listen" to it within ourselves, in others, in things.

"Life is a theatrical play without rehearsals," said Charlie Chaplin. And, as in life, in this play, irony becomes the only possible mask "before the curtain falls and the absurdity of existence leaves us speechless."

The direction of the show is curated by Elina Semeraro, production director Tonio Cantore, with a rich cast of actors: Marilù Schiavone, Anna Angelini, Monica Montanaro, Natalia Luccarelli, Massimo Miola, Francesco Placato, Strato Musso, Emilia Pulito, and Onofrio Fortunato.
