One of Shakespeare's most famous comedies (or dramas) returns to the stage in the adaptation by Andrea Buscemi, who is both actor and director. In an almost perfect symmetry, alternating scenes and characters, the real world of Venice (with its commerce and business) and the fantastical world of Belmont (filled with passion and magic) confront and oppose each other. In Venice, the story centers on the famous character of the Jew Shylock, while in Belmont, it is the beautiful Portia (whom the young Bassanio falls in love with) who takes the spotlight. Finally, the two worlds intersect at the climax of the trial, where Shylock claims "a pound of fair flesh" from the merchant Antonio to exact his revenge against him, and Portia, disguised as a lawyer, manages to unravel the complex and elusive plot.
