"The Good News" is a show conceived as a kind of contemporary Sacred Representation that alternates and intertwines the songs of Fabrizio de André with narrative pieces drawn from the apocryphal Gospels that inspired the author himself: from the Protoevangelium of James to the Armenian Gospel of the Infancy to fragments of the Pseudo-Matthew.

Prose and music, therefore, assembled into a coherent score along the path outlined by the author in the 1970 album. The spoken pieces, like in an archaic tale, highlight the evocative power and significance of the original songs, revealing their mythical and literary source.

With an explicitly theatrical cut, almost constructed in the form of a chamber opera, "The Good News" is the author's first concept album, with score and text composed to give voice to many characters: Mary, Joseph, Dismas the thief, the chorus of mothers, a carpenter, the people. And it is precisely from this base that the theatrical version takes its origin.

"I believe an artist's duty is to comment on the events of his time using the tools of art: allegory, metaphor, comparison." This statement by De André is emblematic of how the author approached such a delicate and debated theme, politically and spiritually, during a time of full student revolt.
