The last of Pirandello’s novels, it is full of enigmas, and according to the author himself, it is the "complete synthesis of everything I have done and the source of what I will do." In an autobiographical letter, Pirandello describes it as the "bitterest of all novels, profoundly humorous, a deconstruction of life." The protagonist, Vitangelo Moscarda, is perhaps one of the most complex characters in Pirandello's work: "initially awkward and imprisoned by others' opinions, he becomes increasingly aware and determined to seek the spiritual authenticity of existence until his final liberation from all 'the world's rages.'"

One day, upon noticing by chance that his nose tilts to the right, he embarks on a journey, discovering with each passing day that he is not, for others, who he believes himself to be. The protagonist, as he meets and confronts a multitude of characters, tries to destroy the many images that others see of him until he becomes air, wind, pure spirit. A revolutionary work, especially for the time it was written, it addresses extremely current themes such as the relationship with nature, a spirituality denied by society and convenience, and the obsessive search for oneself. A text that, in its modernity, surprises, especially today, with its analysis of the banking institution and its impact on the social fabric. A dynamic scenic setup, a group of five extraordinary actors, and the typical Pirandellian humor will tell us this story which remains incredibly relevant even today.
