"The Great Void investigates the last stretch of road that a family travels before vanishing into the void, entrusting perhaps the darkest tragedy of Shakespearean theater, King Lear, with the task of transforming pain through theatrical play. This dissolution is amplified by the progressive annihilation of the mother's brain functions, a former actress, struck by a neurodegenerative disease, who gradually only remembers her trademark piece, a monologue from King Lear.

This draining is echoed by the emptying of human beings from the family home, which instead becomes populated with objects, with memories that increase, weigh, and fill every room.

As Linda Dalisi writes, 'the void is not nothingness; it is a physical state that bubbles.' The work finds resonance and inspiration in Annie Ernaux's A Woman, in Carmelo Samonà's novel Fratelli, and in I cura caridi by Marco Annicchiarico. It is an attempt to tell a great love story: that between a mother, her children, and a father who dies. In the show, theatrical narration is contaminated with video to portray how, thanks to cameras and their high-resolution videos with night vision up to thirty feet, a child* can continue living their own life and enter their parent's life without being seen. Watching the mother play solitaire, stare at the turned-off television, talk to people who do not exist, neglect personal hygiene, cry, sit still on the edge of the bed, spend the night pulling photos, pieces of paper, dirty underwear out of drawers only to put them back. They are used for dogs, but the mother hasn't started barking yet. The Great Void is the final chapter of The Wind Trilogy, where Fabiana Iacozzilli questions significant stages of human existence as generative opportunities: childhood and the relationship with teachers who show or impose paths on us in the multi-award-winning The Class_Undocupuppets, for puppets and men; maturity, parenthood, and the ability to care, featured in A Huge Thing; and finally, old age in relation to the void and the meaning of memory, explored in The Great Void."
