As part of the Puglia Art Project, the trullo of Dep Art Out is pleased to host a site-specific project by the Mexican artist Beatriz Morales. It will be open by appointment from July 22 to 26, 2026.
Puglia Art Project invites three contemporary artists of international relevance to engage with the unique identity of Puglia: its millennia-old history, its landscape, and the delicate balance between nature and culture that characterizes the region. Each artist has been given free rein, allowing complete creative freedom to develop a site-specific work inspired by the fundamental elements that define this region: the sea, the trees, and the stone.
Developed across three locations in Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, and Carovigno, the project puts Beatriz Morales, Giovanni Ozzola, and David Rickard in dialogue with the Apulian territory and its multiple layers: the ancient olive groves and dry-stone walls, the Messapic and Mediterranean memory, the intense light, and the coastal landscape. Through a process of observation and listening, the artists are invited to be guided by the materials, stories, and atmospheres of Southern Italy, transforming them into new expressive forms.
Curated by Virginie Puertolas-Syn, Puglia Art Project arises from collaboration with Copperfield (London), Galleria Michela Rizzo (Venice and Milan), Suburbia Contemporary (Barcelona and Leipzig), Galleria 32 (Carovigno), Giuliana Schiavone, and Dep Art (Milan and Ceglie Messapica).
**Biographical Note**
Beatriz Morales (Mexico City, 1981) lives and works between Berlin and Hidalgo, Mexico. Largely self-taught, she has developed a practice that merges an abstract-expressionist sensitivity with traditional artisanal materials, from layered acrylic "skins" to woven agave fiber. Color and the gesture of the “mancha” (the stain) are at the center of her work, which has evolved into large-scale immersive installations. Recent presentations include the Frieder Burda Museum, Baden-Baden, and a monumental commission at the MACAY museum in Mérida. Her monograph "Color Archaeology" was published by Kerber in 2021. Recent exhibitions include "For Your Oceans" at Sotheby's, London; Bienal Sur, Mexico City; and “Unbound” at Praxis Gallery, New York. Her works are part of international collections.
