### Towards June 2 – 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic
ANPI Gioia del Colle celebrates the anniversaries of democracy through memory, art, and theater
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic, the ANPI section of Gioia del Colle promotes a series of initiatives dedicated to historical memory and the values of democracy, with the patronage of the Municipality of Gioia del Colle and in collaboration with the associations Lavori in Corso and Ombre.
The commemorative path, initiated by ANPI in 2023, aims to remember the events that profoundly marked the history of our country from 1943 to 1948: from the fall of fascism and the armistice, to the Allied landings in Sicily and Normandy, up to the Liberation on April 25, 1945, the referendum of June 2, 1946, and the entry into force of the Italian Constitution on January 1, 1948.
Particular attention will be paid to the institutional referendum of 1946, a historic moment when Italian women voted for the first time, contributing to the choice of the Republic and the election of the Constituent Assembly.
Among the main events, a mural dedicated to women's voting rights, female partisans, and the birth of the Republic will be created by Chilean mural artist Hector "Mono" Carrasco, along with students from the “Rosa Luxemburg” Art High School in Acquaviva delle Fonti.
Additionally, a theatrical performance dedicated to the women of the Constituent Assembly is scheduled, along with a moment of reflection aimed at the local schools.
The initiatives will conclude with the presentation of the outcomes of a workshop conducted by some students of IC Carano-Mazzini on the theme of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, and with the official recognition ceremony for teachers and students of IC "Carano Mazzini" from Gioia del Colle, who, through the reworking and illustration of Lia Levi's book “A valley full of stars,” carried out as part of the ANPI school project for 2024/205, received acknowledgement from the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
