For the third time in two weeks, the “Stabile” Theater in Potenza opens its doors to the “Corto Circuito” festival, edition 2026. On Saturday, June 27 (starting at 8:30 PM), grand symphonic music takes center stage at the event, featuring a notable guest such as Andrea Obiso, Principal First Violin of the prestigious Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, who will perform both as a soloist and conductor. Alongside him, the festival welcomes MATÈ & I Solisti Lucani, thus blending – in the spirit of the event – local excellence with renowned names from the international scene. The concert’s poster also reflects this stimulating mix, pairing the great Mozart with an unpublished piece by the thirty-five-year-old composer Vittorio Tamburrano from Taranto.
Andrea Obiso will perform the last of five delightful violin concertos written by Mozart in 1775, when he was not yet twenty, the one in A Major K.219. The Divertimento in D Major K.251, a gallant and bright piece composed in 1776, will also be performed. Completing the program, still under Obiso’s direction, will be “Danza d’ombre,” from 2026, in its absolute premiere.
Andrea Obiso was born in 1994 and won the position of Principal Violin at the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in 2020. Recognized by critics as a child prodigy, he has won many international competitions in Italy, Germany, France, Armenia, Japan, and Korea.
Last season he debuted at the Philharmonie in Berlin with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, presented and recorded live by Deutschlandfunk Kultur & RBB Radio, and that same year he toured Germany, Finland, and Japan.
In the past, he has performed in Moscow at the Kremlin Palace with the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and Vladimir Spivakov, then in China at the Shanghai Symphony Hall and in Latin America. He also debuted in 2017 at the Herkulessaal and Gasteig in Munich with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Obiso studied conducting with two students of Otto-Werner Mueller, counterpoint in composition with students of Carl Schachter, and improvisation and musical aesthetics with professors Jonathan Coopersmith and Noam Sivan. During his time at Curtis, he also served as the leader of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in many symphonic and operatic productions and studied in New York with Sheryl Staples, concertmaster of the New Philharmonic Orchestra and a teacher at the Juilliard School. He has a deep knowledge of the solo and chamber repertoire, including the less frequently performed concertos of Strauss, Ziino, Khachaturian, Ernst, and Britten.
Obiso plays a “Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù 1741” violin supplied by NPO “Yellow Angel” and a bow “E. Pajeot” owned by “Nippon Violin Co. Ltd.” of Tokyo.
The Association “M.A.T.È (Musicians and Artists of the Territory and Europe) and Solisti Lucani” was founded in February 2019. Within this cultural organization, the chamber ensemble “Solisti Lucani” was formed, consisting of young professional musicians primarily from the Lucanian territory, who are also active in the national and international scene.
Active since 2019, the Solisti Lucani ensemble has already produced many concerts of classical and modern music, collaborating with other associations and hosting internationally renowned artists, such as L. Marzadori, A. Manco, E. Silvestri, and A. Serra (respectively 1st violin, 1st flute, viola, and double bass of La Scala Theater), Franco Petracchi, Enrico Bronzi, Francesco Peverini, and Pablo Varela.
Since 2021, Solisti Lucani has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a “youth instrumental group,” boasting the Artistic Direction of Laura Marzadori, the Principal Violinist of La Scala in Milan. The Solisti Lucani have participated in several internationally recognized festivals, such as the Fadiesis Accordion Festival in the cities of Matera and Pordenone, the CortoCircuito Festival, the Open Sound Festival, the Vivaverdi Multikulti, and the Ludwig 250 Festival.
